What's in the Box

When the AED has to sit in a corridor where nothing may stick out, such as a hospital hall, a school stairwell or an accessible route, the fully recessed cabinet is the one to choose. The whole box goes inside the wall and only the door and a slim trim show. The catch is wall depth: the box is about 7 inches deep, and a standard 2x4 stud wall has only about 3 1/2 inches of space inside. So this cabinet is best planned into new construction or a thicker wall. On an existing thin wall, the semi-recessed cabinet is usually the practical choice.

New buildings and major remodels with a Powerheart G5 or G3, where the architect can plan the wall depth.
Corridors and routes where a cabinet must not stick out into the walkway.
Pick Alarmed or Alarm & Strobe in public buildings, so staff know when the door opens.
Pick the Semi-Recessed cabinet for a standard stud wall.

Choosing a Style

Basic: no alarm. Alarmed: a siren starts when the door opens, which brings help and discourages tampering. Alarm & Strobe: the siren plus a flashing light, for noisy or very large spaces.
